CHRIST IS SUFFICIENT

Do you remember the day you received Jesus Christ as your personal savior?  Didn’t it feel like you had all you needed at that moment?  You had found the One who could fill your whole life.  He was enough. That day your life had meaning, purpose and direction; and it all pointed to Jesus.

In the Scriptures we find the personal testimonies of those who found fulfillment in their lives as they ran the good race.  Four such testimonies are:

The Experience of The Psalmist

After having experienced God’s dealings in his life, David declared that the one thing he desired above all else was “to behold the beauty of the Lord” (Psa. 27:4).   He clearly understood there was nothing in heaven or on the earth greater that God for his life (Psa. 73:25).

The Experience of King Solomon

Solomon, after attempting to fill his live with everything he could imagine under the sun, came to the conclusion that “All is vanity” (Eccl. 12:8).  Every time he tried something new, he ended up empty again.  At the end Salomon declared, “To fear God and keep His commandments” indeed is “man’s all” (Eccl. 8:13).

The Experience of Job

Job experienced the blessing of having all his natural needs provided by God, but he also experienced how it felt losing it all.  Yet he did not “charge God with wrong” (Job 1:22).  As he walked through the shadow of death, he proclaimed, “I know my redeemer lives” (Job. 19:25).  God had become all sufficient to Job, even when he had nothing left, not even his health.

The Experience of the Apostle Paul

Paul testified that a thorn in the flesh was given to him by God.  He prayed to God three times to take it away but God’s response was, “My grace is sufficient for you” (II Cor. 12:9).  Paul did not complain.  He did not argue.  He did not become angry at God.  Rather, Paul accepted the suffering with gladness, understanding that the presence of the Lord in his life was enough and he continued to walk in God’s will.

What is my testimony? Who is God for me?  Is God is sufficient for me? How am I to walk before Him?

  • Knowing that “my times are in his hands” (Psa. 31:14)
  • Knowing that “all my springs are in You” (Psa. 87:7)

If God has made everything beautiful in His time, from beginning to end (Eccl. 3:1-13),

regardless of the time in which I am living, He is sufficient for me and He is the only One that can supply all of my needs (Phil. 4:19).

I need to surrender my feelings, my thoughts, my understanding, my life, my all to God.  I need to remember that my heart is deceitful and, even if I do not understand His ways, I need to remember the price that was paid for my salvation so that I can have the life of Jesus Christ living in me. I need to commit my life to Him who died on the cross for me, believing that He cares for me (I Pet. 5:7) and that “there is no want to those who fear Him” (Psa. 34:9).  He is sufficient for me!
